Miscellaneous Thoughts: Don’t be afraid to buy a Chrysler, Pontiacs unlikely to become collector items

Today is a very important day in automotive history, well at least in Chrysler’s history. As you all probably know by now, Chrysler has filed for a “short surgical bankruptcy” after which it will form an alliance with Fiat. The bankruptcy is expected to last 30 to 60 days.

Don’t be afraid to buy a Chrysler : President Barack Obama made it clear this morning that if any of you are considering buying an American vehicle, you should not be afraid to purchase a Chrysler since the government will back your vehicle’s warranty. – egmCarTech (that’s us)

Pontiacs unlikely to become collector items : For those of you rushing out to buy a new Pontiac and are hoping to flip it in the future as a collectors item, stop right there. General Manager Ron Huting says that since the new models aren’t ‘rare,’ new Pontiacs aren’t significant to collectors like a Corvette. – Open Road

Fiat says that alliance will create two strong companies : Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne said that Fiat and Chrysler will be stronger players in the global auto industry. – Detroit News
