According to a report by AutoCar, Mercedes-Benz is planning on fitting star/stop technology on all of its engines. Head of engine development Christoph Spengel said that Mercedes-Benz is pushing hard to implement the fuel-saving technology across its lineup in an effort to jump ahead of BMW. He did not provide a specific date on when Mercedes-Benz plans to achieve this goal.

It is reported that Mercedes-Benz will first introduce the technology on its 181-hp turbocharged 4-cylinder engine found in the E200 CGI in 2010.

By 2011, the technology will finds its way under the hoods of V6 and V8 models mated to an automatic gearbox.

“Fitting the system to any engine and gearbox is not a problem, we can get reliability quite easily,” Spengel said.

This would be a great safety feature and I’m quite sure other car companies would follow this kind of technology such as Audi, BMW and other big car companies. I’m quite sure that consumers would be delightful about this new feature.
