2009 Shanghai: Production baby-Phantom to be called Rolls-Royce Ghost

Rolls-Royce announced today that the name for its new model, which until now has been known as the RR4, will be “Ghost.” CEO Tom Purves announced the production version nameplate of the 200EX today at the 2009 Shanghai Motor Show.

“The first cars to bear the Ghost name were known not only for impressive dependability and refinement but also great flair and style,” said Purves. “This car will be the first in a new generation of models to carry this evocative name and will give us two pinnacle product lines – Phantom and Ghost.”

Power for the Rolls-Royce Ghost will come from 6.6L turbo-charged V12 engine making more than 500-hp. The engine will be mated to a 8-speed automatic gearbox. Production will take place and Rolls-Royce’s Goodwood plant in England.
