I agree wholeheartedly!! BMW seems to be phasing out manuals, especially in their AWD cars. A pity for those who live in the snow belt. Fortunately, there are still late model pre-owned BMW’s that have manual transmission and AWD. Is if the trend continues, it looks like I will buy a pre-owned BMW with a manual transmission and AWD.

I agree with you there. I would never buy one….if I want an SUV I'll buy an SUV (I guess they're more crossovers)….if I want a sports car I'll buy a sports car. I guess bmw thinks theres a market out there that wants both in one? I doubt they'd do something like this without doing their homework though….

have you tried to sit in a GT-R's backseat? lol I'm 5'7″ and can barely squeeze in there. cmon man dont try to make a GT-R sound remotely practical….so make that 3 more passengers, they work better off-road (off-road doesnt necessarily mean rock climbing), have way more cargo room, and 4.5 seconds is more than mediocre

granted i'm not saying these are practical as far as SUV's go, but compared to a GT-R? no contest

I am a fan of manual transmissions, as well. People that prefer to shift and clutch are, unfortunately, a dying breed.

Part of that is due to Americans sitting in traffic and cheap gas.

In Europe, there is a movement towards paddle shifters because they emulate F1 cars. Friends of mine in England and Switzerland have gone from manuals to manualmatics on their cars.

With regard to BMW's M division, there is no requirement for manuals. If you may recall, when the current M5 and M6 were introduced BMW had no plans for a manual. It was only because of US demand that a manual was added - a couple of model years later.

I have driven the double clutch M3 and while it shifts quickly, it doesn't feel the same or as as good as the manual M3 - IMHO.

BMW must have determined that the target buyers for this vehicle are much less inclined (read: left foot challenged) to order the M X6 with a manual.

I thought the whole point of calling their performance line of cars “M” was because they had to be available with a true manual transmission, not some crappy automatic (ALL automatics are crappy) with a manual shift mode. Oh, how truly disappointing. Not that I could ever afford an M car unless it were 10 years old and with 100,000 miles on it, but this is a stab in the back for auto purists such as my self who abhor automatics (any transmission that doesn't require a clutch pedal is an automatic as far as I'm concerned) and who feel that the current trend of leaning toward paddle shifted cars as an abomination. I have vowed that as long as I am physically capable I will ALWAYS drive a vehicle with a true manual transmission. That means three pedals on the floor and a stick shift. NO PADDLE SHIFTERS! I don't care how much faster those transmissions can shift gears. IT IS STILL AN AUTOMATIC!!! SHAME ON YOU BMW!!

these are so pointless…BMW seems like they always screw themselves over…why would they make their SUVs just as good if not better as their regular M's…that's stupid. Now they have to go and change the M3 and M5…who wants a super SUV? thats just gay.

Let's compare: these "SUVs" hold one more passenger, can't go off road, weigh more, are higher up, will cost more, also have all-wheel drive, don't have a double-clutch tranny, and perform mediocre...

Honestly, what will these M & Ms do beyond a GT-R's capabilities?

BMW and almost all manufacturer's list conservative times. If BMW quotes 4.5 on these expect something around 4-4.2 realistically
