General Motors sales fell 45% in March

General Motors said today that its March sales dropped 45 percent when compared to the same period a year ago. It said that it sold a total of 156,380 cars and trucks last month.

Nonetheless, like its rival Ford, GM saw an increase in March sales when compared to February. GM said sales were up 23 percent in March.

“Sales for GM and the industry showed signs of life at the end of the month compared with January and February. In April, we”re stepping up to the plate to get a rally underway with “˜GM Total Confidence,” our unprecedented customer protection package,” said Mark LaNeve, GM North America”s vice president of vehicle sales, service and marketing.

“We are encouraged by actions taken by the federal government to stabilize the industry and stimulate demand.”
