About a month ago we told you about TopGear.com’s “Build a 70 mpg Car” project. The task was to take a 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit Diesel and convert it into an eco-friendly 70 mpg bunny that hits 60 mph in 7 seconds all for under $7,000.

After two months of non-stop working, Jared and his TopGear.com team not only met their goals – they crushed them. After adding a new engine, new suspension and some garage-built bodywork, the TopGear.com team hit 0 to 60 mph in 7.09 seconds and a fuel-economy figure of 84 mpg.

Congratulations guys. Oh, and we’re very jealous that you had the pleasure of eating IN-N-OUT burgers during your whole task.

You can read the whole TopGear.com article here.

You can check out a video of Project Sipster after the jump and learn how you can build your own.

    Ivan,

We eat IN-N-OUT for lunch and dinner when we go to LA for the LA Auto Show. It's amazing!

Is alright, they’re good burgers not “OMG the Best EVER!!!” as everyone likes to claim. Is good but I’ll stick with Whataburger or DQ something different.

I love how the video fails to load and just leaves a nice black useless box.

Culvers over here in the Midwest rocks the socks off in-n-out!
Sick car though, this is definitely at the top of my life to do list, especially with the impending peak oil crisis.
