License plate ‘1 D’ auctioned off for more than $500k in the UK

We thought that auctioning-off rare license plate numbers was only a big deal in Abu Dhabi – but apparently its also a big craze in the UK. Two days ago, registration 1 D sold for a record amount at the DVLA Personalised Registration auction in Warwickshire.

Lebanese property developer cashed out a whopping £352,411 ($504,597 USD) for the prestigious plate. We could think of a million things to do with $504,597 but Mr. Bishara will be using that amount to throw on the 1 D plate on his wife’s Bentley as a surprise present.

The 1 D registration was apparently the most desirable in the land and was expected to attract a lot of attention at the auction. It smashed the previous record of £254,000 ($337,676 USD) by registration ’51 NGH.’ What is the significance of 1 D? We’ll leave that up to you to have fun with.
