Toyota’s president Katsuaki Watanabe said today that the company will keep selling the current Prius model alongside the 2010 model year that arrive in Japan in May.
“They will have different engine sizes — 1.5 liters and 1.8 liters — and we figure there will be demand for the two to co-exist,” Katsuaki told reporters at the unveiling of the new Toyota Crown Majesta.
Katsuaki didn’t say whether Toyota will continue doing the same outside of Japan but executives in the U.S. and Europe have previously said that the current model will be discontinued once the new model rolls out. The new 2010 Prius will arrive in Japan in May and later next month in the United States.
