According to J.D. Power and Associates, March sales for the first two weeks were down 40 percent when compared to the same period a year ago. For the entire month of March, J.D. Power says that sales are expected to come in at 633,000 cars and trucks, while fleet sales are expected to total 798,000.
That’s much lower than the 1.07 million retail sales in March 2008. J.D. said that annual sales are estimated to come in at 9.2 million new cars as compared to 13.2 million in 2008 despite the sharp drop during the last few months of the year.
However, sales are expected to improve. J.D. Power says that improvements on Wall Street and a boost in consumer confidence should bring the market back. February sales were down 41 percent when compared to the same period last year.
