It was reported over the weekend that Lamborghini has put a halt on the Estoque four-door supercar project. Lamborghini says today that it has not killed the four-door Lamborghini; however, the Italian automaker said that it has yet to be approved for preoduction.

“No decision has been made to produce the Estoque,” Lamborghini said in a statement. A Lamborghini spokesman clarified that the statement means that the project is not dead.

At the launch of the Estqoue at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, CEO Stephan Winkelmann said that if the four-door Lamoborghini is approved for production, the company will produce 2,000 to 3,000 units annually.

Powertrain choices for the Estoque include the 5.2L V10 from the Gallardo LP560-4, a V8 diesel or a V8 gasoline mated to a hybrid system.
