Report: BMW says no to the next-generation BMW Z4M

According to a report by iMotor, BMW has confirmed that it will not be building the next-generation version of the Z4M due to the global economic downturn and the significant drop in consumer demand.

“Given the current economic crisis there is no business case for a full-on M version of the Z4,” a BMW spokesman told iMotor. He said that the M versions of the X5 and X6 were signed off before demand fell in the auto industry.

For those of you that are depressed by this news and are looking for a faster version of the new Z4, BMW says it is working on an M Sport Package for the hardtop coupe/convertible roadster. It is also reported that BMW is working on an ECU upgrade that will allow the 3.0L twin-turbo inline-6 to make an extra 20-hp for a total of 326-hp.

this is by far the ugliest bmw creature thing ive ever seen.

I hope the new one rides better! It's sad when my MINIs ride softer than these go-karts.

BMW can not do an M version without interfering with the M6 and M3, a Z4 M coupe would be cheaper and just a better performer..

And the crash test results of the old Z4! Four stars-front and three stars-side are pathetic. The smart fortwo earns five stars on both accounts.

your comparing a mini to a z4? Sports cars have stiffer suspensions for a reason...if you looking for a soft ride then look for a cadi or 325i etc..

Ya but it's not a "$50,000 ride" is the point I'm making.. lol

those are my thoughts exactly! everytime i see it i think of that fairy tale of the woman who lives in a shoe

    No M version?

We heard that before. BMW doesn't want to have any potential buyers sitting on the sidelines waiting for the M version to hit the show room floor.

I like this car a lot, but a M version would be even more appealing.

but the question is .... would you buy it?

About a month ago I test drove a Z4 3.0si and was interested briefly. The dealer was motivated and was dropping $8K. I didn't think it was quick enough and the interior was dark and noisy.

At the Chicago Auto Show I had the opportunity to look at the new Z4 with the folding metal roof. I like the shape and the interior is very nice. The metal roof makes more sense for metro Chicago.

I would like to drive the twin turbo version first, but I would definitely do a M Z4 on European delivery.
