United Auto Workers President Ron Gettlefinger said this morning that he will be retiring in 2010. In an interview with local radio station WJR-AM, Gettlefinger said that he won’t be seeking re-election next year.

Rumor had it that Gettlefinger, 64, would run for another term.

“There is absolutely no basis or merit to any of the reports of that nature that are out there,” Gettlefinger said.

He said that he will abide by the UAW rules which require union executives to retire when they reach 65.
