In an interview with Reuters about his upcoming “Comedy Stimulus Package” show in Detroit for unemployed workers, Jay Leno exhibited his love for electric-cars and GM’s fuel-efficient vehicle initiatives.

Reuters asked the car-enthusiast if he’s going to purchase the upcoming 2011 Chevrolet Volt, Leno said that he will go by and test drive it. He said that he currently has hydrogen Equinox from GM and that the SUV is “incredible.”

When asked if he’ll be one of the first to test drive the Chevy Volt in real-world conditions, Leno said: “I would love to be. I would love to try it. I think it will be great. I think you”ll find that the Volt will be a superior package to the Prius.”

Superior package at superior price. The 2011 Chevrolet Volt is expected to be priced in the neighborhood of $40,000.

    “Superior package at superior price”

Exactly…Typically more expensive cars cost more for a reason J. Thats liike saying a ZR1 is a superior package to the LT….too bad for GM that they sell 100x more LT's just like toyota and honda will sell 100x more prius and insights

  • Joel

That $40,000 price is before the $7,800 tax credit.

  • Bobmarley

thats still high, about 60% more than an Insight

…whos paying for the tax credit?

  • zermatt

Leno is such a shill for GM. The man has lost all credibility.

  • GMfan87

    what can i say, he's a smart man…lol

  • GMfan87

insight is a hybrid…totally different drivetrains. thats like comparing the price of a cadillac to a corolla. sure the corolla is cheaper and sells more but u get more with the caddy. and the price will come down with the advancement in battery pack technology

  • SuccessInaBag

LOL, Not at 40 Grand……What the hell man. This why GM is struggling, they still don't have a thing on the road to compete with the Prius or Insight meanwhile, Toyota and Honda are giving people 50+mpg and selling it at a cheaper price. Truthfully I think the Volt should have at least started under 30 before tax credit. Sure you get what you pay for but what is the Volt brining to the table for 40 grand? GM's questionable stability? GM's “It will get cheaper later”, A car that has a weaker battery then the EV1 did almost 10 years ago?…I use to be a GM buyer, I just dont know anymore…(((SAD FACE)))

  • Bobmarley

Thats true, but nobody shopping for a corolla is going to consider a cadillac as an option. But people shopping for a Volt are going to consider the insight and prius.

You do know what a shill is – right?

  • GMfan87

i do indeed know what a shill is, i was joking….i disagree on his loss of credibility and of course appreciate his respect for GM
