When the Volkswagen Polo comes to the United States in 2011, it will look a little different than its European cousin. Volkswagen Group of America CEO Stefan Jacoby says that the U.S. market will get a sedan version of the Polo that will be smaller than the Jetta and a 4-door hatchback that is roomier than the one shown at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show.

Jacoby told Automotive News that both models will be designed especially for the United States market. Even though the new-generation Polo that was unveiled in Geneva is larger than its predecessor, it is still too small for the fat North American market.

Jacoby said that the U.S. version of the Polo will be built on a longer wheelbase and will be taller than the European model.

“…it’s more like a Honda Fit,” said Jacoby. He said that the North American market version will be priced between 13,000 and $15,000.
