No Mercedes-Benz didn’t hire Chris Bangle. However, the Stuttgart automaker did hire another BMW designer who goes by the name of Karim Habib. Habib, who is responsible for the exterior design of the new 2009 BMW 7-Series is now moving to Mercedes-Benz where he will head up the company’s advanced design studio.

He will be working under Mercedes-Benz’s new design guru – Gorden Wagener.

This is the second time this year that Mercedes-Benz has stolen hired a design specialist who previously worked at a different automaker. Earlier this year, Joel Piaskowski, left his position as Hyundai’s North America design chief to head up Mercedes-Benz’s advanced design studio near Carlsbad, California.

All these designers suck. Don't blame the bean counters. I see designs by novices with much more attention to detail, with completely feasible works that would ape what these designers with millions to spend. ZKudos to Bob Lutz and Ed Wellburn, for finally letting design drive products.

I think the new designer must be able to provide more quality looking products. I have seen the BMW products with long sparky design. May be this new designer will be able to provide such awesome outlook to Mercedes-Benz.
