We first saw the Volkswagen Concept BlueSport concept at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show in January. While a production version of the roadster will arrive in showrooms in early 2011, Volkswagen is reportedly working on a range of green sports cars that will carry a BlueSport badge.

According to r&d chief Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, the first BlueSport model will be a version of the Scirocco. He said that the idea of the sub-BlueMotoion brand is to apply fuel-saving technology to sportier Volkswagen models. A BlueSport Golf may also be a possibility and will fit between the GTI in the Golf range.

The Volkswagen Concept BlueSport carries a 2.0 TDI common-rail injection engine that produces 180-hp. 0 to 62 mph comes in 6.6 seconds with a top speed of 140 mph. Mated to a 6-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission, the Concept BlueSport returns an estimated fuel-economy of 55 mpg (US).

You look at how forward thinking VW is and how backward the US car industry is and you realize it can be done better.

If only the people running the company and running the unions weren't so god damn terrible

  • Pat

exactly Neil, this is why the American car industry is failing… failure to adapt to the changes as quick as possible

ya, its like they havent had an R&D department for the last 20 years or maybe they've been using the same focus groups for the last 20 years?! lol! ….”ok? so you want bigger SUV's, you like the name Cavalier, and you still think the malibu looks sexy?…GOT IT!!!”

  • Neil

It is sad bacuse there are lot sof good people actually building the cars

Who want to be proud of what they make

  • Bobmarley

Unfortunately their pride and passion for their job is irrelevant because the product they assemble is inadequate before they even know about it
