A two-door GT based on a 3 Series? Do they mean a two-door wagon (like the VW Fox circa 1988?) Or do they mean a pseudo-coupe cum hatchback thing like a Saab 900? Back to the future, I guess. Seriously, just give the market excellent sedans FIRST, then work on fringe crap. I'm getting more and more disgusted with BMW with each revealed news article.

definitely not now but seeing how Mercedes has always had those in the range of $100k+ towards $200k, just wondering how come BMW never made any models targeting segment.

Let's keep in mind that BMW has markets that go beyond the US.

Take the 1 series for example, we only get the coupe and convertible here. Other markets get hatchbacks. Mercedes does the same with the A Class which isn't brought here.

While BMW offers Touring versions of the 3 Series and 5 Series, neither are high sellers in the US. In Europe, they are very popular.

It is clear that BMW will be offering the GT in the US and it is my belief that they are going to use the GT to replace the Touring. I would expect that they have done comprehensive market studies that tell them that the GT will be a better seller than the Touring. This car may have more appeal to European and Asian markets than in the US, but it only has to do better than the Touring to be a success.

I would consider the GT as a replacement for the Touring we now have.

I think right now would be a bad time to that... as a matter of face it's a bad time to do this car too..or a 3-series gt. What's BMW thinking?

I'd like to see BMW producing models in the range of $100k - $200k USD, like the Mercedes's SL500+ / CL550 category.
