Super Bowl XLIII MVP Santonio Holmes will get his brand-new Cadillac Escalade Hybrid Platinum and apparently GM wants to keep it all hush-hush. According to Cadillac spokeswoman Joanne Krell, Holmes picked out the $85,200 Escalade Hybrid Platinum as his reward for winning the MVP on Sunday.

However, Holmes didn’t follow the traditional way of picking his Caddy. Usually, MVPs pick their Cadillac in a hotel ballroom during a news conference where they mark off on a board which car they want. This time there was no board, no Cadillac during the game and no mention of Holmes winning a Cadillac during the ballroom news conference. Everything was done in private. Commissioner Roger Goodell said that Cadillac had asked not to be mentioned.

Krell said that General Motors, who received two checks totaling $9.4 billion from the U.S. Treasury, thought it would have looked bad to make a big deal of the sponsorship this year even though the Detroit automaker will pay back the loan.

This was Cadillac’s eighth year sponsoring the Super Bowl.

Holmes said that Cadillac will live up to the contract it negotiated and that Holmes will be getting his Cadillac Escalade Hybrid very soon.

isnt the whole purpose of the sponsorship to advertise and market their product? This makes no sense? They pay to sponsor the superbowl but they dont want to advertise in it? What is the point of the sponsorship? This just makes them look even dumber! Sponsoring the super bowl is the same as paying for advertising…except that they didnt advertise anything? GREAT investment GM…I just wonder how much they spent on this?

perfectly said…how dumb is it to give the MVP a Caddy and not tell anyone…that may piss off taxpayers even more when you just hand out a product as part of a sponsorship and dont tell anyone
