Watch out Focus RS: 2010 Mazda3 MPS (Mazdaspeed3) coming to Geneva

Mazda announced today that it will debut two new models of the Mazda3 at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show – one will be the Mazda3 i-stop and the next will be the much anticipated Mazda3 MPS (that’s Mazdaspeed3 for us stateside folk). Both models will feature Mazda’s advanced fuel-saving start-stop system.

The Mazda3 i-stop embodies what Mazda calls “Sustainable Zoom-Zoom” with a new MZR 2.0 DSI (Direct-injection Spark Ignition). Working along with other eco-friendly options, the Mazda3 i-stop achieves approximately 12 percent lower fuel-consumption than the current European Mazda3.

Now down to the 2009 Ford Focus RS competitor. The new 2010 Mazda3 MPS features the same MZR 2.3 DISI turbo engine as the current model. No word yet from Mazda if the current output of 264-hp has been increased but we wouldn’t doubt it.

European and North American availability will be announced closer to its world debut in Geneva.

    grrr, why does the MPS get an LED CHMSL while the regular hatch has incandescent?!

    Are mazda and ford enemies now that ford pulled out most of their mazda holdings?

    the front scoop and the 4dr hatch look is definitly reminicent of the wrx…which isnt a bad thing.

    i think its kinda ugly but i also thought that about the wrx and now i like it so i will just give it some time

    The new MPS3/Mazdaspeed3 hase same power, same engine. Focus RS watch out? Are you kidding me? :D
    The ultimate FWD King is back to take his crown … the name is Focus RS. Though the MPS3 is a nice ride. Same concept (FWD+LSD). Pretty ugly in my eyes though … (old one and new one … ) Why cannot they make it beautiful? Mazda makes great and pretty cars, why such ugly thing with the 3 series ….

    Maybe this “3″ is fun to drive but it looks like the old “3″ with some updates, don't know maybe is the overall look that i find old.

    By the way, cars aren't cartoons so i'm hoping these “personifications” of some cars will be leaved behind soon.
