after 28 years on a real police dept, i can tell you that this vehicle is completely unuseable for real police used. no front wheel drive is suitable. i wouldnt even use this unsafe piece of crap for a family car. go to the junk yard and look around at the front wheel drive junk. the "new" police interceptor doesn't even have enough room to pass gass, much less haul prisoners od have room for required equipment. ford executive in charge of this should be FIRED.

I know here in New Brunswick, Canada we have the Crown Vic's.. We also have the Dodge Charges.. We have tested front wheel drive vehicles in the past and have found them to be broken down more than on the road. The FWD suspension is not as tough given our road conditions.. Different seasonal elements etc... Mix in Emergency Driving which is hard on any vehicle and you have alot of Wear and Tear...

The Charger was supposed to replace the VIc but it to suffered alot of mechanical/suspension problems..

The CV has been a solid car..... Why not improve upon it... Change the body to refleck modern looks.. Then modify the engine somewhat... But in saying that..It should still remain a tough car like it is now....

As a Copper I am not a fan of Front Wheel Drive Cars

There is a difference that must be taken into account. What make for a good pursuit vehicle does not always make a good transport vehicle. Try riding in the back of a fusion or small car with a cage between the seats. The scum that the cops arrest need to get transported from the scene to the station then from the station to court and from court to jail. In more rural areas you have only one vehicle to use and it can take a long time. The crown vic should stay with some up grades in the power plant and interior. Its perfect for all around law enforcement use.

I say continue the crown vic and make the motor crank out @ least 1 horsepower per cubic inch. The motor in both the crown vic and the 'stang could be bored out from 281 to 289 cubic inches like back in the 1960's. Also use flex fuel capability and ecoboost!

Yes but at what cost to bring it over an build it here ? The New 2010 Taurus will take care of the needs of the Police. It will also be a much safer car for them to use.

Well I think its time to get rid of the old rear wheel drive Ford CV's and go with FWD for warmer climates and AWD for northern climates, these cars also have 5 star crash ratings so they would protect the officers better.

This would also be a big boost for Ford sales, they also may want to do some 2009 -2010 Ford Fusion Police cars.

Good idea Chris...but I doubt cop cars will look at a rear-wheel-drive car over a front or all-wheel-drive.

They should bring the Australian Ford Falcon over! It's a existing solid car, rear wheel drive large car, and would make a great Patrol Car here in the US.
