Even though Lamborghini sales in the U.S. fell in 2008, the automaker reported a record year worldwide. According to CEO Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini balanced out its sales in the Middle East, China and Southeast Asia.

Lamborghini said that it sold a total of 741 units in the U.S. in 2008 – down 20.3 percent from 2007. Worldwide sales were totaled 2,430 units in 2008, up from 2,406 a year ago. Following Italy, the U.S. is Lamborghini’s largest market.

According to Automotive News, Winkelmann said that he has no predictions for 2009 and said that the brand is most likely to face a reduction in sales in 2009. He said the ability for customers to buy cars priced over $200,000 has been reduced due to the economic downturn.
