Sources have told PickupTrucks.com that GM, during a broadcast this morning, told dealers that it is killing the 2010 Pontiac G8 Sport Truck. The Pontiac G8 ST was scheduled to go on sale in the U.S. this fall. The move comes as General Motors tries to trim down Pontiac’s range with six products to three vehicles by 2012.

The Pontiac G8 ST was created by General Motor’s Holden subsidiary in Australia. GM project sales of about 5,000 units annually.

The modern-day El Camino is powered by a 316-hp V8 and was expected to start below $30,000.

  • cool pontiac.

Damn it. I just heard that Pontic was going away and I had to track down what was going on with the G8 ST. I looks like I am 3 months behind with the info. I wanted one of these bad. I actually wanted the V6 version. I am a car guy and don't like regular pick up trucks. Pick up trucks are a complete waste for 99% of the time. This thing would have been perfect since I have to carry some large items for my business and have a 40 mile commute. Right now I have to go to u-haul and rent a trailer and hook it up to the back of my 98' Buick Riviera when I have a delivery. Hopefully Chevy will hop on it and sell it as an El Camino. Hell, put a Buick nose on it and sell it as a Regal ST. Now we're talk'n.

The G8 has been a sales flop so no surprise that a derivative of the same car has a good chance of suffering the same disappointment.

    it's literally pointless anyways

This totally looks like a sedan that had a gender change.

maybe because its a G8 with a truck bed?

The one GM vehicle I was interested in actually buying and they decide not to bring it to the US?

Wagoner - you are so fired.
  • Pat
zermatt, why buy this over the G8 Sedan? Unless your hauling stuff the G8 Sedan is an amazing vehicle
  • zermatt
Pat, I have owned a couple of F-150s and always wanted an El Camino or a Ranchero with current technology and a big ass V8.

When I had the F-150s I was hauling stuff more often, but the 535 xi Touring doesn't cut it for dirty and large objects. The G8 ST would have been a great additional vehicle for around the house.

With pricing being what is is now, I may just go with a new F-150.

It is a bit of a shame
but not using the El-camino name was Wagoner and his boys first mistake on this one
  • Bobmarley
Fo sho!....the new camaro and el camino would have been good together....but this is just another example of GM's excessive brand name blunder
