Hyundai Motor America has killed speculations and rumors that it will build a convertible version of the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. According to Miles Johnson, manager of product public relations, a Genesis Convertible was never in Hyundai’s pipeline.

“It’s never been in the plan,” Johnson told Inside Line. “There was some internal discussion early on, but since we unveiled the coupe in New York, there’s been no talk.”

Johnson said the coupe version of the Genesis was never buit to be a convertible and was made to be a global car. He said Koreans aren’t “down” with the idea of wind in your hair and there isn’t enough traction for Hyundai in the U.S. to offer a convertible. He said Hyundai has no plans to offer any convertible on any of its models in the near future.

The 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe will hit dealerships in March.

Hyundai has been making some marketing miscues as of late. The Genesis is bland in design for the price. The Azera was and is a winner, the Genesis a external design flop.

The Genesis coupe sans convertible looks like an over priced Tribioun and it is impossible to envision who that might appeal to.

good decision....not now ...but maybe later when the car is launched and you see how sales go... if they are good then maybe in 2011 or something?
