I don't think so. I think this is to urge people to buy SUVs by telling them it's going to be popular again in no time..maybe sales will be higher partially, but that's normal considering the discounts and offers you get on SUVs these days...

The auto makers understand this, but the Greens and the Democrats have no clue that the people of the U.S. love their large vehicles. What Americans want are the same vehicles that they have today with the same level of performance, but with better fuel economy.

I have read that some “experts” believe that the current buyers of SUVs and pickups are unaware that the break in gas prices is temporary. It could be that these people have done the calculations and determined that with the deep discounting available that the cost of gas would have to be much higher than $6 per gallon before the efficiency of the vehicle becomes an issue.

Perhaps they are buying because of the fear that once in power the Democrats will legislate large or utility oriented or fun (sporty) vehicles out of existence. I believe that our preview into the future of automobile occurred during the congressional negotiations for the bailout. The Congressional Democratic leadership made it clear at that time that bailout cash was predicated on green vehicles. If the Greens get control of the auto industry the Prius and the Escape Hybrids could be as fun as life will get.

Starting January 21, 2009 the battle for auto enthusiasts will begin.
