This is a stupid marketing gimmick....but unfortunately it lures ignorant buyers. Anyone buying a new car shouldn’t worry about the first 3yrs/36k of maintenance cost which is going to be less than 1k, especially if its a Volvo witch will cost you upward of $30-40k. Almost al new cars will only require oil changes and maybe a light or wiper change in the first 3yr/36k

Audi was one of the first to bring out the free maintenance. I've owned BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Volvo. The Audi free program of the early 90s was the best covering brake pads, wiper blades, air filters and even headlights.

The BMW program was good as it was wiper blades but did not include brakes. Now, the Volvo is basically free oil changes, "check," and resetting the maintenance interval lights. My point is the free maintenance is not what it used to be.

Last time, Mercedes attempted to have me replace a Xenon bulb for $350 that was actually a Sylvania bulb that was $110. They have figured out how to bring you in for the free oil changes to up sell services.

As for the XC90, the absolute best SUV. Having owned two 5 series, the X5 just does not look right. Kinda like a Golden Doodle. The ML has never looked right. And, the Cayenne was too much money. The XC90 is one of the best buys of a Euro SUV on the market.

Ya, because BMW is the only car company, except VW, that needs a maintenance program...NEVER-will-I-ever own either product and their subsidiaries again until I die..
