After all the spy shots and denying, BMW today confirmed that it is indeed doing an M version of the BMW X5. The German automaker today released footage of the BMW X5 M in testing on its BMW-web.tv site.

While we have little details on the BMW X5 M we have heard that the high-performance SUV will be powered by the 4.8L twin-turbo V8 that makes 400-hp from the X6 xDrive50i.

No word on when the BMW X5 M will make its world debut but we’re guessing BMW strategically released the video today since they may have something up their sleeve for the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.
