The 2010 Mazda3 5-door Hatchback has been unveiled at the 2008 Bologna Motor Show. Mazda is flaunting the fact that it has sold 1.8 million units of the Mazda3 worldwide ever since the first-generation model was introduced – the model has won a total of 90 automobile awards around the globe. Congratulations to Mazda for that one.

European sales of the 2010 Mazda3 5-door Hatchback will begin in spring 2009. It will be offered with a new MZR-CD 2.2L turbo diesel unit that makes a total of 185-hp and a maximum torque of 295 lb-ft. Combined fuel-economy for the new diesel engine comes in at 42 mpg. Buyers will also get to chose from a 109-hp MZ-CD 1.6L turbo diesel, a 150-hp MZR 2.0L gasoline unit and a 105-hp 1.6L gasoline. Keep in mind that those engines will only be available in the European market. The U.S. should get the same engine options as the 2010 Mazda3 sedan we saw at the 2008 LA Auto Show including a 148-hp 2.0L and a 167-hp 2.5L.

it looks good. It would be nice to have the diesel offered in the US but diesel prices are still up and for some reason Americans never get the diesel models

Awesome. Mazda needs to bring that 2.2L turbo diesel over to the US. Why would Mazda let VW be the only company offering a diesel in the US in the $22,000 range? People here would welcome more diesel competitions to the VW Jetta, and would choose the Mazda diesel over the Jetta for its sporty handling and reliability.
