Drivers-Republic: Nissan GT-R vs. Porsche 997 GT2 on the Nurburgring

This is the story of a large can of worms that a website called Drivers Republic decided to open. It goes like this. Nissan, the maker of the GT-R, claims that its car can run a 7min 29sec lap at the Nurburgring.
Porsche get its hands on one of these GT-R things, doesn’t get anywhere near the claimed time, and publicly says so. Nissan then offers Porsche, and any other auto-maker for that matter, some free driving lessons if they want to get the best from the GT-R.
Collectively, we giggle at the silliness of it all. But the gauntlet has been laid down, and it is this Nissan claims the GT-R is faster than the Porsche GT2. Is this true? DR did its best to find out.
You can see a video of each Nurburgring run after the jump and you can also read Drivers-Republic’s full take on the issue by clicking here.
