Video: Porsche PDK allows you to disengage FWD in Carrera 4 models

Our friends at Garage419 recently flew down to Salt Lake City to test drive the 2009 Porsche 911 with PDK or ‘Porsche-Doppelkupplung.’ The new PDK double-clutch 7-speed automatic gearbox replaces the Tiptronic S-automatic transmission on all Carrera models.

Porsche says PDK improves acceleration and fuel-economy. The Stuttgart company also hit up the Nurburgring to test the PDK which it said cut 8 seconds off the 911 Carrera S’s lap time. According to Porsche, the 2009 911 Carrera S lapped the Nurburgring in 7:50. The 2009 911 Carrera S with manual did it in 7:58.

One interesting fact Garag419 points out is that you can disengage front wheel drive in the Carrera 4 if you pull the handbrake up on notch – but that’s only if you have the PDK transmission.
