The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro just went on sale Oct. 13 and GM has already booked over 6,000 orders.

We would reckon that with the way consumers has been shifting to fuel-efficient cars that many people would opt for the V6 models but since gas prices are low and the Camaro is one of the hottest cars to hit the market this year, people are buying the V8 Camaro SS. According to Camaro5, 84 percent of the Camaro units sold so far are SS models.

GM is telling dealers to becareful since it won’t be able to build in this model mix. It is expecting orders to quickly pass the 20,000 units allocated through September. Click here for a detailed pricing sheet.

Orders to date:

LS: 2%
1LT: 4%
2LT: 10%
1SS: 7%
2SS: 77%

The death of the performance car is quickly gaining momentum. GM will only make so many HPO vehicles to meet goverment mandates on fuel economy. Expect the death of the performance vehicle to be hastened if the Democrats get big gains in congress and win the White House.
