GM announced about 2 months ago that it won’t be spending its millions in ad budget at the Academy Awards in February. The automaker said that it has pulled out all ad spending at the Oscar’s due to a downturn in automotive advertising. So who’s filling GM’s spot?

According to Advertising Age, Hyundai Motor America has purchased all of the ad spots that GM abandoned for the next Academy Awards.

Hyundai has also purchased two 30-second spots during the third and fourth quarter of Super Bowl XLII – another event that GM has pulled its ad spending out of. Hyundai will push the new 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe at Super Bowl XLII.

GM and the Oscars have been in bed together for 11 years. Last year, GM spent about $13.5 million during the event.

    Have we not had enough with all these celebrities forcing their moral opinions on us through use of ready and willing media ready to make a buck. From what moral high ground I ask ... alcohol abusing, drug user, divorse happy, drunk driving for publicity, orgy and sex party attending, sex tv reputation, child abusing people they are (with very few exceptions).

    To top it off they hold an awards ceremony from themselves to themselves to show off how great they are.

    There is NO moral VALUE in advertising during the Oscars. I predict the ratings will be an all time low as they were for the previous awards (Emmy's was it?). However, as is most of the time with big corporations, profits matter over anything else.
