Video: Toyota Camry backs up and onto a police car

Back in May, an Illinois officer returned to his car after writing an owner of a Toyota Camry a ticket, allegedly for speeding. What happens after that is still being debated in court.

After the officer returns to his car, the 71-year old Toyota Camry driver selects the wrong gear backs up and onto the hood of the officer’s cruiser. The court and jury are still trying to decided whether the incident was a complete accident or if the 71-year old man was actually that angry that he decided to back up into an officer.

Police in Buffalo Grove, Illinois have now released the dash cam video from the officer’s cruiser.

Subaru has unveiled its new Forester XTI Concept that will make its public debut at the 2008 SEMA Auto Show next week in Las Vegas. What does XTI mean? Basically the Forester XTI Concept builds on the Forester 2.5XT but gets it performance from the Impreza WRX STI.

That means that power comes from the 2.5L intercooled turbo engine that makes 315-hp with a maximum torque of 290 lb-ft. Mated to close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission that allows for a 0 to 60 time of less than 5 seconds for the Forester.

Brand Spankin’ New Images: 2010 Audi S4

We saw the 2010 Audi S4 at the 2008 Paris Motor Show and it crossed our mind at that time that everyone at the stand was so proud of Audi dropping the 340-hp V8 for a supercharged V6 that makes 333-hp. We, on the other hand, think Audi is a bit late to the market with their supercharged V6.

Rivals Infiniti and BMW have already been in the market with their 330-hp Infiniti G37 and 300-hp (actually produces 320-hp according to dyno results) BMW 335i a little over a year now.

Nonetheless, it’s nice to see Audi unify the segment with the 2010 Audi S4 but someone please tell Audi that the S4 does not compete with the Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG or the 2008 BMW M3.

Follow the jump for the 2010 Audi S4 high-res gallery now updated with new images.

Treasury denies GM’s request for aid, Chrysler merger talks on hold

Filed under: Chrysler, GM, Industry News

GM CEO Rick Wagoner is probably very angry this morning along with the executives at Cerberus Capital Management. It was reported Wednesday that GM and Chrysler had worked out major issues and that a final deal could come as early as before Election Day seeing that the government approves a $10 billion aid package.

Unfortunately for GM, the U.S. Treasury has declined its request for financial aid and any progress on the merger between GM and Chrysler will have to wait until after next week’s presidential election.

Happy Halloween to everyone that hangs out with us here everyday obsessing over car news. Our Top 10 Scary Cars from 2008 list consists of just downright weird, ugly and some very mean cars that we saw during this year.

The list consists of everything from the recent AC Schnitzer Falcon X6 with its two-tone gold and black body, to the awfully mean looking 600-hp Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR. Then there were some weird sightings like the Hummer H3 Wagon on wooden wheels and Citroen’s GT. Of course we had to throw in some cars that we felt were beaten with an ugly stick like the 2009 Honda Pilot and the 2009 Nissan Murano.

Check out the list (in no particular order) after the jump and let us know if you think there is something we missed or something we should have added.

Things are starting to get bad for Nissan. The automaker just announced a 39 percent drop in fiscal second quarter profit and is today saying that it will cut its earnings outlook and will cut output and its workforce as a response to the depressing U.S. auto market.

In an interview last night with Brian William on NBC’s Nightly News, democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama said that he will immediately meet with the executives of Detroit automakers, which may very soon be the Big 2 instead of the Big 3.

“My hope is if I’m elected, that I’m immediately meeting with heads of the Big Three automakers, as well with the United Auto Workers,” Obama said to Williams. “And to sit down and craft a strategy that puts us on a path for an auto industry that can compete with anybody in the world.”
