Porsche to get new baby Boxster, successor to the 356

At the 2008 LA Auto Show, Volkswagen will show the world a new concept that will hint at a future, affordable, mid-engine coupe and roadster. Audi is also expected to come out with its own version of the roadster – badged the R3. Both are expected to be powered by a 4-cylinder turbocharged engine.
According to CAR, Porsche will also jump on the Volkswagen roadster project with a baby Boxster – a car that could be a successor to the 356. Production is expected to be very limited in order to keep the car very exclusive.
So basically, Volkswagen will be getting a competitor to the Honda S2000 and the Mazda MX-5, while Audi will be getting baby brother to the R8 and Porsche will get a modern lightweight successor to the legendary 356.
No word yet whether what engine will power the Porsche version of this car but we expect Porsche to bring back 4-cylinder use with this model.
