Porsche tuner RUF is set to take on Tesla Motors’ all-electric roadster with their version of an all-electric Cayman. According to a reports by Auto Motor und Sport, RUF will show a prototype of an electric Porsche Cayman as early as next month – and don’t worry performance won’t be jeopardized, well at least not by a significant amount.

RUF’s electric Porsche will be powered by a 150kW (201-hp) electric motor with maximum torque of 479 lb-ft. Mated to lithium-ion battery pack, RUF says that the car will be able to travel a range of 155 to 186 miles. The 0 to 60 mph run is expected to come in under 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 124 mph.

Not bad at all. RUF is considering a small-scale production for the all-electric Porsche Cayman. Pricing will be made available closer to production but expect it to be way north of the $109,000 you’ll drop for a Tesla Roadster.

How big of a part does driving style play into the range of these EV's? It seems like it would vary dramaticaly with these types of cars

From everything that I have read about this company, this is not some marketing stunt. Unlike Fisker, which seems to be 80% marketing at this point, Ruf is a profit oriented, let the numbers speak for themselves oriented business. I cannot wait to see the final product. I really think that the large car manufacturers have something to learn from the boutique manufacturers.
