The new 2009 Ferrari California is one sexy car; however, we still think the 599 GTB Fiorano is one of the sexiest Ferrari’s on the road today. Sadly enough, Ferrari doesn’t offer a convertible version of the 599 – until now.

According to AutoExpress the Barchetta, Italian for “little boat,” version of the Ferrari 599 is under development. What the heck does the word Barchetta mean to Ferrari you ask? No to long ago, in 2000 to be exact, Ferrari introduced a convertible version of the 550 Maranello which had no top – and by no top we mean no top. It was a true roadster that came with detachable soft top that Ferrari recommended not using above speeds of 70 mph.

This time however, Barchetta is used for just naming purposes and the 599 convertible will come with a hard-top folding roof like the Ferrari California. Power is expected to come from the same 6.0L V12 620-hp engine of the 599 GTB Fiorano coupe.

The Ferrari 599 Barchetta will debut next year at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show with production to start later that summer.
