There’s about an hour left before Chrysler gives us the details on its new electric-vehicle onslaught. Before we you bring you all that detailed new, Automotive News is reporting that Chrysler and Lotus are in talks to produces an electric sports car based on the Elise.

Pictured above, the Dodge EV will be based on the Lotus Elise and will go from 0-60 mph in under 5 seconds while providing 150 to 200 miles on a single charge. Seems like Tesla Motors will have a mass-market rival.

“Lotus has a lot of experience with lightweight vehicles and aluminum structures,” Frank Klegon, Chrysler’s executive vice president of product development said at a press event this morning. “We have experience with propulsion systems.”

Chrysler has yet to give a time frame (we’re hearing from other sources that it may be around 2010) or any details on what a car like the Dodge EV will cost.

Yet still Chrysler can never really make their own platforms, they have to get other car companies to do that. Which is kinda sad in my book

its a lose lose situation.... they can make their own mediocre platforms or outsource and get someone else to do their job. Either choice is a bad business plan for such a big name car maker.
