According to the folks at CAR, the six-generation Golf GTI will make its debut at the 2008 Paris Motor Show alongside the 2009 Volkswagen Golf. The GTI will have fatter bumpers, lowered height and an aggressively shaped grille.

Power is expected to come from an Audi-source turbo engine that produces 208-hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission the new Volkswage GTI should run from 0 to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds with a top speed limited to 155 mph. Fuel-economy is estimated at 33 mpg.

CAR says that Volkswagen is also working on a GTD version which will carry a turbocharged diesel. Power will come from a 2.0L common rail diesel unit producing 170-hp. The new Golf R20T will come next year with a 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine producing 265-hp.
