Bob Lutz says that it’ll be worth the wait and Chevrolet’s General Manager Ed Peper says it’ll get close to 40 mpg – but when the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze arrives in the North American market in April 2010, it may cost more than its Japanese rivals, the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla.

According to Peper, the GM needs to get more money per unit sold than its Japanese competitors. He said that car prices in general will rise because vehicles will have more technology and fuel-efficiency. Makes you think why go ‘green’ anyway.

Peper said that the new Malibu is selling for $4,200 more than its old model.

The 2011 Chevrolet Cruze will make it to over 100 markets with Europe being the first. Europeans will get the Cruze early next year with two gasoline engines including a 112-hp 1.6L 4-cylinder and a 140-hp 1.8L. A 2.0L turbo diesel producing 150-hp will be added later.
