So we have some horrible news for you this afternoon. Audi has confirmed to InsideLine that there will be no 2009 Audi RS6 for the U.S. Why not? Blame the fuel-economy and emissions goals set by the government.
“We had thought perhaps that it would be possible, given America’s preference for the four-door version instead of the Avant, but the work required on the V10 powertrain to meet the emissions goals hurt the business case,” Jens Koch, RS6’s project manager told InsideLine in an interview.
However the Audi RS5 will be making its debut at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show and that will indeed be coming to the U.S. in early 2009 with the new ARS4. The Audi RS5 will be powered by a 4.2 liter V8 producing 450-hp.
