Toyota will be showing the 2009 Toyota Avensis next month at the 2008 Paris Motor Show – but in the mean time it keeps releasing little details and a couple of pictures here and there. Today we see the front of the 2009 Toyota Avensis sedan and a side-profile of the Toyota Avensis Tourer (station wagon).

The third-generation of the Avensis was designed at ED2, Toyota’s design studio in France. Toyota says that active and passive safety standards are taken to a higher level with new safety features like Steering-assist Vehicle Stability Control (VSC+), Adaptive Front Light System (AFS) and Pre-Crash Safety System (PCS).

No powertrain details are available as of yet but Toyota says that the engines will be both more powerful and more fuel-efficient.

  • Chevy Renta-bu
After spending a week in a new 2008 Chevy Malibu, I can with 100% confidence say that there is no uglier car on the road than that thing. Everytime I got out of it and glanced over at what I was actually driving, I couldn't get over what an ugly and cheap pile of garbage it really was.

I guess the only consolidation was that the Malibu was a pretty common car on the rental lots, so at least the ugliness didn't stand out like a sore thumb. It was just a sea of ugly Renta-bu's, mostly silver and white over in rental car row at the San Francisco Airport.

This Avensis is much nicer looking to me and has a touch of class, almost Lexus-like as one other poster pointed out. I would def drive one of these over a Malibu. Probably built much better as well

I drove the current Avensis (diesel) in Ireland a couple of years back and for a basic Camry/Accord type car, it drove pretty nice. Toyota really knows how to hit the sweetspot when it comes to everyday, point A-B transportation. This one looks pretty good to me. Even has some Lexus styling cues that make it look real classy.

I would definitely trade my 2007 Saturn Aura (With its not-so great reliability and shoddy quality) for one of these if Toyota brought it over.

Wow. This is the ugliest thing I have ever seen. Toyota design is going down a very odd path. That large wood center console on the inside... yeow...
