Full-sized pickups enjoy a boost in sales in Aug.

Yes, we keep hearing that the pickup segment is performing the worst in the automotive market. However, full-sized pickups were on a rise last month, but beware – as they say, “it ain’t over till it’s over.” In August sales of full-sized pickups were up more than they have been in any month in 2008.

Full sized pickups were up 13.2 percent last month up from 9.1 percent in May. Small car sales were down to 22.5 percent in August compared to 29 percent in May.

Analysts say the increase in sale for large pickups was due to the low inventory levels of compact cars and gasoline being cheaper than they have been in recent months. Not to mention automakers gave out many incentives, $5,723 per vehicle according to Edmunds, to move inventory in showrooms.

The Chevrolet Silverado was the top-selling full-sized pickup in August.
