We’ve already seen a sketch of Nissan’s upcoming compact crossover that will be built alongside the Qashqai. Design and engineering work is underway on the new model that will replace the Micra on the company’s Sunderland production line in 2010.
Nissan is still debating on the price and the production number but sources tell AutoCar that Nissan intends on selling the compact crossover in big numbers. Insiders say that the pricing will be about £1500 (around $2,673 USD) under the Qashqai.
The Japanese automaker is doing all it can to keep engineering cost low. As a result the car is currently being engineered in India at Nissan’s new factory is Chennai. Engineering costs are 40 percent cheaper in India than in Europe.
Powertrain details are still yet to be confirmed but we expect a line of 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engines.
