We’ve heard rumors of a Ford Capri revival before, but now CARandDRIVER reports that Ford is planning a Capri Concept for 2009 to celebrate the model’s 40th anniversary.

The concept will hint at a future successor to the Ford Capri (previously sold as Mercury in the U.S.) and will be built on the next-generation global Focus platform. Styling is expected to be influence by the Ford Visos and Iosis concepts with a hint of Ford’s European Mondeo.

A production model is expected to hit the U.S. roads in 2010 with Mercury badging and we hear this will be the first major hint at Mercury’s new compact-car future.
