So you really can’t afford to cash out $38,000 for the Dodge Challenger SRT8 but really want a good-looking muscle car. Well – worry not because Chrysler has added the Dodge Challenger SE and R/T to its 2009 Challenger lineup and prices start at just $21,995. But will that get you the performance you’re looking for?

The entry-level 2009 Dodge Challenger SE is powered by a 3.5L V6 engine that produces 250-hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to 4-speed automatic transmission. The folks at InsideLine recently had the chance to test drive a Challenger SE and reported a 0-60 mph time of 8.1 seconds. Not that impressive but hey – at least you get a fuel-economy of 18/25mpg (city/highway).

If you’re looking for a little more power and have a little more cash to burn - the 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T starts at $29,995 and is powered by a 5.7L V8 HEMI that produces 370-hp.

For some reason this car looks like a Pot Bellied Pig with wheels. I just cannot get excited about any car with "retro" intentions. Designers go to school for 4-6 years, work their tails off to get noticed, and then get paid to come up with this thing? I simply don't understand this concept. Why pay someone to pen and ink what someone already did 30+ years ago?

I agree, the wheels are tucked too far into the wheel well and it makes the body look bloated (like old school cars), but maybe thats what they were going for? Its not as bad with the SRT8 though.

Im guessing you werent included in their target market which are probably older baby boomers who have childhood memories of big 3 speed V8's
