Alfa Romeo 159 successor coming to the U.S., to follow 8C Competizione design

Alfa Romeo is keeping the U.S. market in mind when planning the successor to the 159 sedan According to AutoCar Alfa Romeo will bring back the historic Giulia name for the successor which will be build on a longer version of the upcoming 149 platform.
Insiders say that current 159 platform is too expensive, too heavy and won’t meet the U.S. safety regulations. Engineers and designers at Alfa are working to prepare the Giulia to meet safety and environmental standards for Europe and the U.S.
The design has already been signed off by Sergio Marchionne. Sources say it will follow the design of the MiTo and the 8C Competizione. The Alfa Romeo Giulia will be unveiled in early 2010.
