2009 Volkswagen Golf GTI and ‘R’ coming next year

We’ve already seen the new 2009 Volkswagen Golf but what about the GTI? According to AutoCar, Volkswagen will reveal the high-performance Golf GTI soon after followed by an even more powerful four-wheel-drive R variant.

The 2009 Golf GTI should hit the market in spring 2009 and will be powered by a 2.0 liter turbocharged engine producing 211-hp. It will be equipped with a new valve-lift system produced by Audi. The Volkswagen GTI will get more aggressive looking with a new front and rear bumper along with different head and tail lamps with Audi-style LED daytime running lights. It will ride on 18-inch alloy wheels with 19-inch wheels as an option.

Currently there are no plans to replace the current R32. Instead Volkswagen is rumored to be working on a all-wheel-drive 265-hp R variant.
