Even though the EPA has already approved the Pontiac G3 and G3 five-door for sale in the U.S., Pontiac has no plans to sell the Chevrolet Aveo based model on the stateside anytime soon.

“Right now, we don’t have that vehicle approved for U.S. consumption,” Pontiac spokesman Jim Hopson told Inside Line.

The Pontiac G3 is powered by a 1.6 liter DOHC engine that produces 107 horsepower. The EPA site says that the Pontiac G3 and the Chevy Aveo both get 25/34mpg (city/highway).

The next-generation Chevrolet Aveo is due out in 2010. The Gamma 2 platform that it will use will also be used on the production version of the Chevrolet Beat minicar. The U.S. was recently reported to get a production version of the Chevrolet Trax or Groove.

I thought Pontiac was supposed to be the high performance division of GM, unless if they have high performance division, I don't think it should exist here.
