Fisker plans three additional plug-in hybrid models

Filed under: Hybrids & Green News, Industry News

Besides the upcoming Fisker Karma, Fisker Automotive is planning four additional models of plug-in hybrids. All four models will use the same underpinnings, powertrain and hybrid technology from the Karma due out next year.

We’ve already heard of a Fisker Karma two-door convertible plug-in hybrid. That will also spawn a coupe Karma which will be followed by an SUV.

Fisker plans on selling 15,000 units a year of the Karma hybrid sedan and has already received more than 800 orders for the car in the UK. Full technical details are still unavailable but Fisker has said that the Karma can do 50 miles on battery power alone with a 0-60 coming in less than 6 seconds. The 300 mile range plug-in hybrid will start at $80,000.

Honda working on CR-V based hybrid model

Filed under: Honda, Hybrids & Green News

Update: Apparently there was a typo by the Columbus Dispatch editor. The article mean to say “we’re going to bring in a model based on the CR-Z” not “CR-V.” So as of right now there will be no CR-V hybrid but we think it would be a great competitor to the Toyota Highlander Hybrid. Thanks to Turkle for pointing out the correction.

Honda’s Dick Colliver (better known Richard E. Colliver) was in central Ohio this week during the 2009 Acura TL launch. Why is Colliver so important? Besides being the formal executive vice president of automobile sales, Colliver is considered Honda’s no. 2 man in North America.

Besides talking about cars, economy, the local work force, Colliver gave some insight as to what Honda has planned for the future. When asked if Honda has any other green cars coming down the line besides the new global hybrid, the new Civic Hybrid, Honda Fit Hybrid and the production CR-Z Hybrid, Colliver replied:

Lutz said an official announcement will be made by the end of this year and that GM will show the production Volt very soon.

So far we’ve seen official teasers of the production Volt but someone snuck in a camera (or used their cell phone) at the event today and managed to snap a shot of the interior. As stated previously, Apple and Mac lovers will love the interior of the Volt.

From the images you can see the flat surface buttons on the center console. Another thing that stands out are the heated seat buttons which you might want to avoid if you want to have kids.

Volvo is counting on the V30 to retain and attract new buyers that were once interested in the S40 since no replacement model is planned for the sedan. Volvo will also target the V30 as a rival to the upcoming BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz BLK and Audi Q3 compact SUVs.
