Don’t worry this is just the beginning – there are many more 2010 Camaro posts to come. We learned earlier this morning that the base 300 horsepower 2010 Chevrolet Camaro goes from 0-60 in 6.1 seconds while the 400+ horsepower Camaro SS does it in 4.6 seconds. But for those of you who no longer judge performance by 0-60 times or quarter mile runs and look Nurburgring lap times as the new standard for performance – we’ve got some Camaro Nurburgring news for you.

According Doug Houlihan, GM’s chief engineer for global rear-wheel-drive vehicles, the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS lapped the Nurburgring in 8:20. Not bad for the Camaro who is definitely not looking to show up the Nissan GT-R or the upcoming Acura NSX .

We’ll leave all that up to the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and its lap time of 7:26.4 .

This is an amazing car. It's got good handling, speed, and horsepower all for a great price. It doesn't look anything like the Mustang or Challenger, which is good. This is not a car that has poor handling, excessive body roll, or dull steering. That can be found in GM's old cars. Their new cars, the Camaro, CTS-V, and ZR1, all are absolutely amazing. Anyone who thinks the 2010 Camaro isn't good is an ignorant fool. Look at it on paper. Sit in it. Drive it. You'll see that it's quite amazing. Don't let GM's economic troubles or terrible cars from the '80s and '90s fool you. They can make amazing cars now. Don't just assume it'll be terrible, because it won't. So wake up, read reviews from everyone, and you'll see that the Camaro is astonishing. Stop being stupid and get smart.

This seems like a marketing stunt more than a way to bolster the car's sporty image. GM is trying to build an image that this is a serious sports car for the budget minded. The press reviews will determine if the SS really owns up to the image GM is marketing. If the car gets the above numbers but scares the hell out of its driver in the process (ie poor handling, excessive body roll, dull steering feel, etc.), then this car will not be well received by enthusiasts. I have no doubt that it will sell, but I want to see beyond GM's marketing and see the real car.
