Fisker announced today that it has hired Valmet Automotive, a company that builds cars for Porsche AG, to build its first production car. Fisker said that later models of its plug-in electric Karma hybrid sedan will be produced in the U.S.

Fisker hopes to have the first models of the Karma by the fourth quarter of 2009 – it also hopes to have 40 U.S. dealers by that time. Fisker plans on selling 15,000 units of the Karma hybrid annually which is expected to be priced at $80,000. The start-up says it has already received 800 orders for the Karma hybrid from overseas .

Fisker has yet to give us solid details on the Karma, but has said that the car can do 50 miles on battery alone with a 0-60 is time of less than 6 seconds and a top speed of 125mph. The Karma plug-in hybrid is expected to have a total range of 300 miles.

Yeah I seriously doubt that they will get anywhere near that claim. I'll be surprised if the car launches on time and if they sell 10,000 units.
